Dimensional Sketching with Physical Media is a collection of sculptural works designed and built with intent to preserve the raw, expressive energy of a quick sketch. Steel rod of varying size comprises the linear framework, echoing the mark of pen to page, while a selection of pragmatic fabrics such as canvas and muslin are dyed then stretched to create planes of colorfully implied mass. Overthinking being the enemy of gestured form, speed and intuition are essential for translating page to dimensional space while preserving the sometimes erratic nature. With no true orientation these works also remain ambiguous enough to create space for indefinite perspective and interpretation. Much like the use of sketching to rapidly evolve and explore an idea, each piece and process informs its successor leaving the overall trajectory of this body of work relatively open-ended.
